Frequently Asked
Is Credit Repair Legal
Yes, credit repair is absolutely legal, and actually only works because of the laws. One of those laws is called "The Fair Credit Reporting Act." The FCRA gives you the right to dispute any item on your credit report. If that item cannot be verified within a reasonable time (usually 30 days) it must be removed. Studies have shown that 79% of all credit reports contain errors. This is nearly 8 out of 10 reports. Therefore most credit reports improve immediately. For items that disputed that are not errors, a creditor or furnisher is often unable to find the records or signed documents within the allotted time and the item gets removed. Sometimes the furnisher will say it has been verified by not offer proof. It is our job to prepare documents that challenge this and we are very skilled at that.
IS CREDIT REPAIR WORTH MY TIME AND MONEY
Contrary to what credit bureaus want you to believe, credit repair does work in most circumstances. But it only works if you are getting the best advice from an experienced professional. Anyone can benefit long-term from the advice and information provided through credit and finance education. However, there are limiting factors that will prevent us from helping you. Two main factors are: (1) your financial situation and/or (2) the time frame in which you need to reach your results. It is possible to remove almost anything from a credit report, even accurate items. For instance, if the creditor makes mistakes or does not adhere to the specific time frame, the negative item may be removed.

WILL HIRING A CREDIT REPAIR COMPANY AUTOMATICALLY "FIX MY CREDIT"
No it will not. Any credit repair company that guarantees results not acting ethically. They are just trying to sell you a service to make a quick buck or using illegal practices such as credit sweeps. They are also violating the Credit Repair Organizations Act, which is legislation designed to protect consumers from unscrupulous companies.

Yes, anyone can attempt fix his or her own credit. The amount of time it will take to research what to dispute, how to dispute, and effective methods of disputing is tremendous; therefore, most people elect to hire professionals who are specifically trained and have experience in repairing credit to take on the credit bureaus on their behalf.
I like to equate credit repair to taxes - anyone can file his or her own taxes, but keeping up with the ever changing laws, procedures, and figuring out exactly how to apply income and expenses effectively to minimize your liability is tremendous. This is why most of the public elects to hire a certified tax professional to prepare their taxes. The same is true in credit repair, and ethical credit repair companies are also bonded and insured, just like tax professionals.

WILL PAYING COLLECTION ACCOUNTS DELETE THE NEGATIVE REPORTING
This answer is tricky, while repairing your credit WILL NOT erase you of your obligation to your past debt - paying the debt in some cases can hinder the credit repair process. When understanding when to pay debt and delinquent accounts, you must consider the statute of limitations on each particular account, as well as the date of first delinquency. Sometimes paying your debt can restart the clock on the amount of time that particular account can remain on your credit report. In most cases, unless you are facing an active lawsuit, it is better to check each account for inaccuracies first - and after the dispute process is complete on that account, then you can pay the debt. Here at Credit GameChanger, we will guide you through this process step by step to ensure the best possible outcome for you!
can i get my credit fixed fast
Credit repair does take time when done right. The exact amount of time all depends on what is on your credit report and it is not the same for everyone. While some may achieve results quicker than others, the results that you are looking for is almost always possible. Credit repair is about persistent pressure against the big banks and credit bureaus, pointing out their mistakes every step of the way. Some items on reports are far more in depth and require specific disputing in a certain order which can result in more complex credit issues taking more time than less complex issues such as removing excessive inquiries. The key point in credit repair holds true in much of life and the bottom line is "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!"
HOW OFTEN DO YOU SEND OUT DISPUTES ON MY BEHALF
We send out our disputes every 35 days and here is why - the credit bureaus have 30 days to respond to your dispute from the day that they initially received the dispute, and through our experience we have found that it takes roughly 5 days from the day of mailing until the bureau receives your dispute. If we do not allow the proper time for them to respond, we may be sending out a letter for an account that they already deleted or we may also be responding inappropriately to one of their last minute responses, which would actually result in the process taking longer for you. Here is the exception, if the bureau or creditor responds with a stall tactic or another form of an illegal response, we will immediately send out another letter during the same 35 day cycle to prevent them from unnecessarily slowing down the process of your credit repair.
what is a stall letter
What we in the credit repair space refer to as a stall letter is a letter sent by a credit bureau or creditor with the deliberate intention of slowing down or discouraging you from fixing your own credit. These letters may range from them refusing to investigate your response because they believe that you are working with a credit repair company (which working with credit repair is completely legal) all the way to refusing to investigate because they believe your dispute was not legible. There are many variations to these letters and the important part is to just remain calm, make sure that you communicate any written communication from the credit bureaus or creditors to us immediately so we can respond quickly and appropriately. Many times they send these letters as a "last ditch effort" to avoid deleting these items that they realize are inaccurate and warrant a deletion.
